As with the seat slats we do the same for the stabilizer and front leg assembly.

There is another important reason we sand: Sanding the end grain closes off the porosity. That means that water will not soak into the end of the boards.

If we didn't sand the ends, water would soak in making the board expand at it's end only. This uneven stress on the board may lead to checking.
