A bat house is fairly simple.
It is a rain proof box for bats to live in. It offers them protection
from predators and the weather. During the day they cuddle up
tight for heat transfer. They like to be warm during the day.
That is why it is so important to mount the bat house where it
will receive direct sunlight most of the day. In cool climates
such as New England black latex paint or stain is recommended
for maximum solar heat transfer.
Our new model is the three-chamber
bat house. It is the same as this one, but it has one panel that
is six inches larger than then largest one shown. It attaches
to the back which creates a third chamber and the extra length
creates a textured landing pad.
Bats feed on insects at dawn and
dusk. They have excellent vision during the day and even better
at night. They use echolocation, which is a high-pitched screech
that bounces off objects and lets them identify insects as small
as a millimeter up to 35 feet away! A bat's echolocation system
is hundreds of times more accurate and efficient than our governments
best technology.
Bats are an essential part of our eco system. They
keep flying insect populations in check. We need them as badly
as they need us.
Do your part. Buy a bat house. Follow the mounting
instructions and educate yourself on bat's needs. Your family,
friends and neighbors will thank you.
Bats are an important part of our
ecosystem. They are mother natures flying insect controller. People
that have bats do not have mosquitoes. Owner Max Baldwin has read
many books on bats and gained membership to Bat conservation International.
He designed this Bat House to conform to the "North American
Bat House Research Project" and has gained the "Bat
Approved" seal. It is not as easy as it seems. In order to
do your part in reducing mosquito population and help bats you
need to educate yourself. This page is a work in progress as all
research is. If you have useful information or links please provide
them in the "contact
us" section. Your help is appreciated. Thank you.
